Course description
MSP® 5th Edition Practitioner - eLearning (exam included)
MSP® (Managing Successful Programmes) is a methodology for program management in the sense of the organized coordination of the creation of a portfolio of projects and activities that together enable an enterprise to achieve results and benefits that are of strategic importance. In this sense, program management does not coincide or overlap with project management. In other words, in those contexts where the results and benefits to be achieved are of a strategic nature, but where it is not yet clear by what means and outputs those results and benefits can be achieved. MSP fits into Axelos' best practice for the management of Portfolio, Program and Project Management and therefore integrates well with MoP®, P3O® and PRINCE2®.
What has changed in the 5th edition?
The essence of what a program is remains the same as in the 4th edition of MSP: it is temporary, it focuses on results of benefit, and it engages in leading multiple projects and other work. The core concepts (principles, themes and processes) also still form the overall structure of the guidance. However, these have been revised with the following principles in mind:
- To ensure that MSP remains adaptable and flexible and can be used in a wide range of organizations and environments. There are many different drivers of change, and MSP's approach to program management should ensure that the organization's investment in change is managed wisely.
- Provide guidance for a wide range of investments that benefit from program management, recognizing that the word "program" has many different meanings for organizations, and that wording other than "programs" may be used by those organizations.
- Highlight the incremental nature of a program and show how MSP enables cyclical progression to the desired future state. Organizations are complex, the external context is changeable, and the delivery of benefits and creation of value usually cannot be achieved through a series of linear steps.
- To enable program teams to recognize the many ways outputs and changes can be delivered, including iterative (Agile), linear, and hybrid approaches.
