Course description
In Sanitary Sewers - Condition Assessment and Rehabilitation, you'll learn ...
- Techniques for identifying the locations where sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) may occur
- Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Survey (SSES) activities, such as rainfall monitoring, flow isolation, smoke testing, dyed water testing and CCTV
- Factors that contribute to the need for collection system rehabilitation
- Sewer line rehabilitation options, including sliplining, cured-in-place pipe, fold and form lining, and on-line replacement
Overview

Length: 41 pages
The deterioration of the physical condition of aging sewer systems along with increasing regulatory control of wet weather overflows has resulted in a significant need for rehabilitation of existing collection systems. Sanitary collection systems play a critical role in protecting human health and the environment. Sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) result when these systems fail, posing health and environmental risks.
One of the most important and challenging elements to reducing or eliminating sanitary sewer overflows is condition assessment, including an effective sanitary sewer evaluation survey (SSES). Condition assessment seeks to locate and characterize specific defects or inadequacies of the sewer system and quantify them in terms of contributing to overflow and/or backup problems. Condition assessment sets the critical basis for selecting and implementing the specific rehabilitation measures designed to reduce infiltration/inflow (I/I), repair structural defects, regain or increase hydraulic capacity, and prioritize a rehabilitation plan in a cost-effective manner.
