Hazardous Waste Management Specialist (HMS)
This course will provide a student with the knowledge of how to properly identify, accumulate, minimize, and ship hazardous waste. You will learn how to develop a contingency plan and how to comply with land disposal restrictions. The course provides a comprehensive overview of the latest regulatory requirements, waste exemptions and exclusions, universal waste requirements, VOC standards for hazardous waste generators, and waste minimization requirements.

Performance Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to determine what is considered a hazardous waste, use various tables within the regulations to identify a hazardous waste and then properly mark, label and create a manifest for various types of containers. The individual will possess the knowledge to develop the elements of a hazardous waste management and minimization plan, a hazardous waste contingency plan, as well as understand the reporting requirements for spills and/or leaks of HAZMATs.
