In this course, you’ll learn the basics of hazardous waste management as required by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). We will define hazardous waste and several terms and abbreviations related to hazardous waste management, the waste management act and provisions/subtitles.
We will look at the evolution of RCRA legislation, the components of RCRA and its interrelationship to other environmental statutes. You will learn how to identify hazardous waste, as well as what are the hazardous waste exclusions and exemptions. We will also cover two types of hazardous waste: listed and characteristic hazardous wastes.
Finally you will learn about Part A (siting) and Part B (detailed design) permitting application submission requirements and Special Forms of Permits such as Permit-by-Rule (PBR), Emergency Permits, Research, Development, and Demonstration (RD&D) Permits, Land Treatment Demonstration Permits, Combustion Permits, Post-Closure Permits and Remedial Action Plans.
This course is recommended for civil and environmental engineers who are interested in learning about hazardous waste management basics.
