Course description
In Introduction to Roundabouts, you'll learn ...
- The three categories of roundabouts
- The characteristics of roundabouts and design considerations for drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit vehicles
- Space requirements and potential applications for roundabouts to consider in the planning stages
- Effects of geometry, traffic flow and driver behavior on roundabout performance
Overview
Credit: 8 PDH
Length: 131 pages
Traffic circles have been used in the U.S. since 1905. The modern roundabout, developed in the United Kingdom, was developed to rectify problems associated with traffic circles.
This course will provide information that will guide the engineer in planning, designing and constructing several types of roundabouts. This 8 hour course also addresses the safety and operational characteristics of roundabouts and gives crash statistics that will educate the reader on the positive effects of utilizing roundabouts.
