Course description
In Geometric Design of Roundabouts, you'll learn ...
- The principles and objectives common to the design of all categories of roundabouts
- Size, position and alignment of roundabout approaches
- Speci?c guidelines for the design of individual geometric elements at single-lane and multilane roundabouts
- Design criteria for mini-roundabouts
Overview
Credit: 6 PDH
Length: 100 pages
Traffic circles have been used in the U.S. since 1905. The modern roundabout, developed in the United Kingdom, was developed to rectify problems associated with traffic circles.
Roundabout design is an iterative process where a variety of design objectives must be considered and balanced within site-specific constraints. Maximizing the operational performance and safety for a roundabout requires the engineer to think through the design rather than rely upon a design template.
In this course, you’ll learn guidelines for the geometric design of single-lane, multilane and mini-roundabouts.
