Bookending is a popular tool from the Level 52 curriculum where participants learn how to create clarity around their expectations and language by defining what it DOES mean to them, and what it DOES NOT. Put another way, when setting expectations for a team member, bookending creates clear boundaries around what success will look like, and what would miss the mark.
