Course description
Applied Subsurface Geological Mapping - SCA Flagship Course
A week-long program for geologists and engineers
Subsurface maps are an extremely important part of petroleum exploration and development. As such, engineers and geoscientists working within oil and gas are expected to be able to accurately generate and interpret multiple types of subsurface maps.
This is the single most demanding subsurface mapping course available, taking participants through a hands-on understanding of geology necessary for generating reliable subsurface maps. Whether a newly graduated geoscientists, engineer or experienced professional, this course will present sound, proven geological mapping solutions useful to all. This training guides delegates through the fundamental principles and methods that underlie accurately constructed subsurface maps, whether the data source is a seismic interpretation, well log correlation or both.
A practical, hnads-on course
This program takes learners through fundamental and advanced methods of subsurface mapping used by the most proficient exploration and development geoscientists in the industry. Participants are prepared for the current realities of subsurface mapping and will cover all recent advances in interpretation. Mapping techniques, examples and exercises for extensional and compressional tectonic settings are the core of the course. Diapiric and strike-slip faulted structures are also discussed. In addition, volumetric mapping is presented as well as some of the numerous pitfalls in reservoir volume determinations using isochore maps.
