Course description
In Wind Loading Fundamentals: The Design of Wind-Resistant Buildings and Structures , you'll learn ...
- The nature of wind and how it interacts with buildings and structures
- The ASCE/SEI 7-10 general requirements for structural design of buildings and other structures
- How to analyze and account for wind loads in the design of buildings and other structures
- The nature and impact of hurricanes and tornadoes—and how to design for them
Overview
This webinar teaches both fundamental and advanced concepts of wind engineering for engineers and other professionals who have little or no background in the design and analysis of wind loads. Through live interaction, webinar participants will become familiar with general concepts of wind engineering and wind design criteria, as well as the American Society of Civil Engineers Standard: ASCE/SEI, 7-10 Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures.
We will look at the minimum wind design loads and design formulae in a simplified format, making them easy to understand and apply. You will learn how to analyze important parameters and perform calculations for determining wind loads on buildings (using, for example, the directional procedure), and various design examples will help you determine wind pressures for other structures, such as rooftop equipment and billboard signs. You will also learn the effects of extreme winds generated by hurricanes and tornadoes and how to employ multi-protection design to mitigate the damage caused by such natural disasters.
