Course description
In Temporary Sediment Basin Design, you'll learn ...
- What are temporary sediment basins
- How they are used to mitigate erosion and provide sediment control during construction
- The factors that determine the required size of temporary sediment basin
- The step-by-step methodology for designing a temporary sediment basin
Overview
Credit: 1 PDH
Length: 24 pages
Temporary sediment basins are just one structural best management practice (BMP) used to mitigate erosion and provide sediment control in disturbed areas during construction. Temporary sediment basins are used to detain runoff so that sediment will settle in the basin before it is released. Temporary sediment basins protect the surrounding properties and drainage ways from sediments caused by erosion. The size of the temporary sediment basin is determined by the size of the drainage area, the soil type, and rainfall intensity.
This 1-hour course will cover the design and the operational benefits of temporary sediments basins. Design criteria will be covered, followed by an example problem to illustrate the methodology for designing a temporary sediment basin.
