In Steel Column Design by ASD/LRFD Steel Construction Manual , you'll learn ...

  • How to calculate the axial compressive strength for a column depending on the axis of bending and end connections
  • How to determine the effective length factor for different types of end connections
  • How to calculate the slenderness ratio for a column
  • Classification of sections as non-compact or a slender-element

Overview

Credit: 2 PDH

Length: 18 pages

This course covers the design of steel columns based on the AISC Steel Construction Manual, 13th edition. No prior knowledge of previous codes is necessary. This course would be of particular interest to Civil and Structural Engineers. This course will show how to design axially loaded W sections by trial-and-error using section E3 of the specification. It will show how to design columns using Table 4-1 from the Steel Manual. It will show how to use Table 4-22 to compute the axial compressive strength of a column. Steel is a recyclable material.
