Course description
In Resonance, you'll learn ...
- How to calculate resonant frequency for series resonant circuits
- How to calculate resonant frequency for parallel resonant circuits
- The definition of quality factor and how to compute it
Overview
Credit: 1 PDH
Length: 25 pages
This course introduces the resonant (tuned) R-L-C circuit, which, is fundamental to radio and television receivers. A receiver tuned to a particular station is tuned to a resonant frequency. The resonant circuit is selective and has a specific range of frequencies (bandwidth) for which the response is near or equal to maximum. Frequencies far from the resonant frequency do not have any significant power to be carried through and affect the signal of interest.
We examine both the series and parallel resonant circuits. For parallel resonance, the ideal and the practical circuits are considered separately, since they lead to different results.
The course is based on the textbook by Peter Basis “Introduction to Electronics: A Basic Approach” 1st Edition, ©2014, published by Pearson and reprinted by permission of Pearson Education, Inc., Upper Saddle River, NJ.
The course material is presented illustratively, with equations presented without extensive derivation.
