Course description
In Principles of Signal Design, you'll learn ...
- Traffic signal planning and early design considerations
- The three types of signal control
- Steps required to develop an accurate base plan for a traffic signal
- MUTCD location restrictions for traffic signal heads
Overview
Credit: 2 PDH
Length: 32 pages
The normal function of traffic lights requires sophisticated control and coordination to ensure that traffic moves as smoothly and safely as possible and that pedestrians are protected when they cross the roads. This Traffic Signal Design course describes principals used in the design of traffic signals. A step-by-step procedure is presented for preparing a set of traffic signal design plans.
Included in the course is a discussion of traffic signal support selection, signal head placement, vehicle detection design, pedestrian system design, and the selection of signal phasing and timings.
