Course description
In Lubrication - Fundamentals , you'll learn ...
- The science of friction
- Types of wear, including abrasive, adhesive, pitting and corrosion wear
- The primary purpose of lubrication
- The principles of hydrodynamic lubrication
Overview
Credit: 1 PDH
Length: 15 pages
Friction is a force that resists relative motion between two surfaces in contact. Friction can be beneficial, such as when attempting to plant your feet to move a heavy object. However, friction in rotating equipment can be detrimental. Excessive friction causes premature wear and generates heat, which results in wasted energy.
In this course, you will learn the basics of friction and wear and how lubrication is used to reduce friction in common applications.
