Course description
In Introduction to the Life Safety Code , you'll learn ...
- The overall big picture of the Life Safety Code
- The classification of occupancy and hazard of contents
- Means of egress
- Features of Fire Protection
Overview
This webinar explains the basic level of the National Fire Protection Association® Life Safety Code (NFPA 101). Participants in this live, interactive webinar will learn how to use the Life Safety Code in your current building projects. In the webinar, we will focus on the means of egress and use business occupancy as an example. Means of egress can be broken down into several components such as travel distance, exit capacity, occupant load calculation, fire barriers, fire rated doors, and etc.
We will also cover topics including fire protection equipment and specific considerations required by various interior finishes, contents, and furnishings. We will discuss the different type of doors and stairs (treads and risers, handrails, and guard) and will provide guidance on emergency lighting and exit signs as required by the code.
Both occupant load calculation and calculation of capacity will also be discussed. To solidify your understanding of the Life Safety Code, there will be an exercise to apply your knowledge based on a given project with floor drawings.
