Length: 36 pages
This four hour course will discuss the requirements for the placement of different types of signs and pavement markings to guide and control traffic at the approaches and through an intersection. These intersection control signs and pavement markings supplement the Traffic Signal, and they must conform to the latest edition (2009) Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (USDOT MUTCD).
To properly design a Traffic Signal, the Engineer must understand all the rules and standards that govern the installation, and provide the proper intersection controls signs and pavement markings to supplement the Traffic Signal. These are: Regulatory Signs, Warning Signs, and Guide Signs, supplemented by Pavement Markings. They help reduce vehicle and pedestrian accidents within an intersection that can involve years of litigation.
