Course description
In Improving the Safety of Schools and Other Buildings in Earthquakes, you'll learn ...
- Earthquake fundamentals, including causes, ground motion characteristics, and intensity scales
- Lessons learned from previous seismic failures at schools
- How to evaluate existing schools for seismic risk
- Seismic risk reduction methods for new and existing schools
Overview
Credit: 3 PDH
Length: 65 pages
The purpose of this course is to familiarize the engineer with the earthquake risk to schools and the processes and methods that can be used to reduce it. Knowing these risks along with determining the earthquake threat to a specific location can help determine the building’s vulnerability in the event of an earthquake. Although the course focuses on schools, it is applicable to most commercial buildings.
