Course description

engineer in tunnel

In Fundamentals of Statics, you'll learn ...

  • Resultant of a Force System
  • Equilibrium of a Particle
  • Equilibrium of Rigid Bodies
  • Trusses
  • Beam Shear and Moment Diagrams
  • Frames and Machines
  • Friction

Overview

Statics is a foundational engineering topic. Many other topics, such as mechanics of materials and fluid mechanics, build on the fundamental concepts of statics. This webinar covers the majority of topics covered in any engineering statics course, and the material is covered in an applications-based approach rather than focusing on development and proof of equations.

This webinar focuses on three main areas: Statics of a Particle, Statics of Rigid Bodies, and Statics Applications. Each area is presented with numerous example problems to describe the solution methods and thought process. The Statics of a Particle section and the Statics of Rigid Bodies section both focus on equilibrium equations to determine unknown forces in a system. Applications are then covered in the Statics Applications section and include topics on trusses, beams, frames, machines, and static friction.

The instructor has over 10 years of academic teaching experience, which includes teaching Statics multiple times. The webinar is presented in a progressive manner, where the fundamental concepts are presented and continually reinforced with examples.
