Overview
Credit: 2 PDH
Length: 29 pages
In the current competitive electricity market, reducing operation costs is crucial for the survival of power companies. Since fuel constitutes the most significant single cost of operating a power plant, fuel savings by operating plants more efficiently is a very promising method for lowering the generation cost and helping power companies to succeed.
The purpose of this course is to educate and train power plant engineers on how to monitor and run their plants more efficiently. This includes discussing plant efficiency/heat rate, introducing controllable parameters and losses, their heat rate impacts, as well as the dollar values. Additionally, other parameters/losses which can have significant implications for the heat rate but are not controllable by plant operators are introduced. The potential heat rate impacts of such losses and ways to monitor and run them more efficiently are also covered.
