Length: 17 pages
This course examines the design, function, and capabilities of five of the most used, most important vehicle suspensions in today's automotive vehicles. It starts with an explanation of the three main components of suspensions systems: "links, springs, and shock absorbers" and follows with a dictionary of suspension terms which are very unique to the industry.
The first suspension system, the "beam axle", used initially on horse-drawn buggies, then used on the Model T Ford, and now used on today's trucks, is reviewed with an ample number of supportive drawings and sketches. It is followed by an explanation of the "Dual-Beam" suspension and its relation to the single beam axle design previously discussed.
The remainder of the course covers the ingenious "double wishbone" suspension and its two derivatives, the "short/long arm" suspension and the "Macpherson strut" suspension. These three suspensions are highly used in today's automotive industry and have very unique design capabilities which are carefully described in the text with supportive sketches.
This course is for Mechanical Engineers, Automotive Engineers, Power Train Engineers, Design Engineers, and any other discipline dealing with automotive technology.
