Course description
A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK® Guide) is a globally recognized standard for the practice of business analysis. The BABOK® Guide describes business analysis knowledge areas, tasks, underlying competencies, techniques, and perspectives on how to approach business analysis.
The Solution Evaluation knowledge area contains tasks that can be useful at the two extreme points of the project lifecycle: at the start, when the current solution (current state of the business) is being assessed, and at the finish, when the delivered solution has to be assessed and compared with previous one. All other parts of BABOK talk about planning and developing a future state of the business, and only this part is dedicated to analyzing the current state.
Each project must deliver a certain value for the customer, and the customer is waiting for this value, dreaming about new possibilities, new achievements, and higher effectiveness for the business. Thus, it is important to define what this value actually is and how faster, cheaper, and profitable a business can work thanks to the obtained solution. But sometimes (honestly, practically always), there are a lot of obstacles in the way of changes in business that make it impossible to get such value completely. Identification of such obstacles and constraints is one of the goals of Solution Evaluation. And the second one is the creation of recommendations on how these obstacles and constraints could be removed and the full value delivered.
The major challenge with self-studying the BABOK Guide is that, while describing typical tasks of business analysis, it does not explain when and how one should perform these tasks. It assumes that business analysts shall be able to answer these questions on their own, based on their personal experience and specifics of a particular project. Besides that, the BABOK Guide provides very few examples that might help analysts relate the theoretical knowledge to their daily practice. The purpose of this course is to overcome that challenge. The course includes a lot of practical exercises to help participants consolidate their understanding of the theory. In addition, we discuss the preparation issues for the IIBA certification.
This course provides 8 professional development hours (PD hours) for further IIBA certification.
