Course description
BABOK Guide v.3.0 provides descriptions of 50 techniques that can be useful in business analysis activities. But which technique has to be used in a particular situation? What is a sequence of using these techniques, and even more general – what is a sequence of activities a business analyst should do to help a customer improve their business?
The major challenge with self-studying the BABOK Guide is that, while describing typical tasks of business analysis, it does not explain when and how one should perform these tasks. It assumes that business analysts shall be able to answer these questions on their own, based on their personal experience and specifics of a particular project. Besides that, the BABOK Guide provides very few examples that might help analysts relate the theoretical knowledge to their daily practice. The purpose of this business game is to overcome that challenge.
This game simulates the process of analyzing a current business situation and elaborating proposals to improve it. During the game, students will solve the following tasks:
- Analyze documents describing the business architecture;
- Build the company’s organizational structure model;
- Using Business Model Canvas, building a model that describes higher-level business architecture;
- Build an AS IS model of business processes;
- Develop requirements for an information system;
- Conduct a brainstorming session to make a list of business process improvements;
- Build a TO BE model of business processes.
This business game will help students get some hands-on experience by applying the following business analysis techniques:
- Document Analysis;
- Organizational Modelling;
- Business Model Canvas;
- Process Analysis;
- Process Modeling;
- Functional Decomposition;
- Brainstorming.
In addition, this business game provides participants with 8 professional development hours (PD hours) for further IIBA certification.
