Ban-the-Box Law Updates in Tennessee: What You Need to Know
Gain valuable information on new ban-the-box laws in Tennessee. Around the country, numerous states and municipalities have adopted ban-the-box laws that prohibit asking prospective employees about their criminal records on an employment application. In most instances the prohibitions only affect public employers; in a few jurisdictions the prohibition has been extended to private employers. In 2016, Tennessee joined the jurisdictions that have banned the box – for public employers. Learn which employers are affected by the prohibition and if and when criminal background checks may be made during the hiring process. Before you begin implementing the new law, you must understand what the law prohibits – and what it allows.
