Course description
Audio/Sound Design Post-Production Techniques
This is an interactive, hands-on course for both audio and video students, as well as professional film producers and video editors. Audio/sound design post-production techniques will encompass the areas of music, dialogue and sound effects. Participants will develop basic skills and time-saving methods to perform audio post-production work on movie and commercial projects.

Who should attend?
Prerequisite:
- For audio trainees: access to, and basic knowledge of, either Pro Tools or any multi-track DAW.
- For video trainees: access to, and basic knowledge of, either Adobe Premiere or any video-editing program with audio capabilities.
Training content
Upon completion, trainees will have developed and enhanced their skills in the following areas:
- Project Management
- Demonstrate proper handling, organization and setup of files and projects.
- Demonstrate ability to import audio and video media (OMF/AAF files) for editing to picture.
- Music
- Search online music libraries and perform 60, 30, 15 and six-second music edits.
- Understand different music licensing options and how it pertains to a client’s budget.
- Search online music libraries and perform 60, 30, 15 and six-second music edits.
- Dialogue
- Demonstrate ability to edit and clean up dialogue with noise reduction.
- Demonstrate EQ and compression techniques ,and prepare projects for final mix with music.
- Sound Effects
- Search and build a personal sound effects (SFXs) library.
- Demonstrate ability to edit SFXs, dialogue and music for a motion graphics final mix.
- Understand Foley and how to record your own sound effects.
- Other Tools
- Understand mics (shotgun/small condenser and Zoom H4n) for voice and sound effects.
- Understand tools for remote dialogue recording of talent across town or across continents.
- Understand basic MIDI techniques for sound design.
- Understand how to work with clients to achieve optimal satisfaction.
- Resources – Projects I have worked on in real-world situations.
- Special Software
- For audio trainees: Pro Tools or any multi-track DAW.
- For video trainees: Adobe Premiere or any video workstation to edit audio.
- **Not Required** Izotope RX7 (or earlier version) or any Noise Reduction Software (We will cover basic noise reduction techniques using Izotope RX7).
Costs
The cost of this training course includes all course materials and a subject matter expert instructor.
Certification / Credits
Upon completion, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion with CEUs.
