Who should attend?

Targeted at anyone responsible for the oversight of generators, this course ensures participants are well-versed in the theoretical and practical aspects of AC generator maintenance and troubleshooting.

Training content

The curriculum is comprehensive, covering a wide range of topics essential for understanding and managing AC generators:

  1. Alternators (Synchronous Generators): This segment focuses on configurations, armatures, connections, temperature, environment, and insulation systems, providing foundational knowledge about generator construction and design.
  2. Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVRs): Participants learn about generator characteristics, manual and automatic excitation control, frequency regulation, voltage regulation, voltage regulator stability, types of sensing circuits, power input circuit, frequency compensation, fault current support, excitation support systems, and power system stabilizers.
  3. Governor Fundamentals: Covers aspects of mechanical and electronic governing, including speed droop, isochronous governors, proportional electronic governor systems, actuator elements, and digital governing controls.
  4. Engine Protective Controls: Discusses essential protective measures and components for generator engines, such as lubrication, cooling, overspeed controls, alarms, shutdown mechanisms, and generator instrumentation.
  5. Load Banks: Explores alternator loading considerations, applications, types of load banks (portable, permanent, radiator, medium voltage), controls, and their significance in generator testing.
  6. Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS): Educates on emergency power supply, power transfer methods, manual and automatic devices, ground-fault protection, open and closed transition transfer switches, and maintaining emergency power transfer systems.
  7. Paralleling Generators: Examines the electrical power system, parallel operation of generators, synchronization, protective strategy, failure modes, protective relaying scheme, islanding, and suitable protective schemes for interconnected generator systems.
  8. Troubleshooting On-Site Power Generation Systems: Offers insights into common and formal troubleshooting processes, including practical troubleshooting tools and case studies to enhance problem-solving skills in real-world scenarios.

Certification / Credits

Upon completion, attendees will be adept at addressing challenges related to generator operation and maintenance, significantly enhancing the reliability and efficiency of power generation systems.
