The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE)
The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) is the largest anti-fraud organization in the world, and is the top source of anti-fraud training and education globally. The ACFE is reducing fraud in business operations across the world, together with their over 75,000 members. Furthermore, the ACFE has inspired public confidence in the integrity and objectivity within the profession.
Dr. Joseph T. Wells, CFE, CPA, originally founded the ACFE in 1988. The insight he gained as an accountant-turned-FBI agent led to his development of a common body of knowledge and information known today as fraud examination. Today, the ACFE is based in Austin, Texas.
The ACFE Mission
ACFE's mission is to reduce the incidence of fraud and white-collar crime and to assist its members in detecting and deterring fraud. To accomplish this mission, the ACFE:
- Provides bona fide qualifications for Certified Fraud Examiners through administration of the CFE Examination
- Sets high standards for admission, including demonstrated competence through mandatory continuing professional education
- Requires Certified Fraud Examiners to adhere to a strict code of professional conduct and ethics
- Serves as the international representative for Certified Fraud Examiners to business, government and academic institutions
- Provides leadership to inspire public confidence in the integrity, objectivity, and professionalism of Certified Fraud Examiners
