Safety Trained Supervisor (STS/STSC)
The Safety Trained Supervisor (STS/STSC) credentials are professional health and safety qualifications accredited by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP). STS/STSC credentials provide certification for those professionals working as first-line supervisors, managers, and any other position with health and safety responsibilities.
In order to participate in STS certification training, all candidates must meet a set of minimum education and experience requirements and be able to prove their knowledge of basic safety and health standards and practices. Read more below to find out about STS certification requirements!
Which certification should you get?
The STS certification
The STS certification best suits those workers in facility services, health care social assistants, administrative and support management, pest control, lawn care repair and maintenance staff. Generally, the candidates seeking this STS program work in transportation, utilities and manufacturing. The STS examination program requires a candidate to demonstrate their understanding of the principles and practices of safety within supervision. Browse STS training options above to help you prepare!
The STSC Examination
The STSC certification best suits managers, first-line construction supervisors, superintendents, foremen, crew chiefs, and craftsmen whose duties include maintaining safe conditions and practices on construction job sites. There are currently over 7,000 individuals actively holding the STSC certification.
How can you become STS or STSC certified?

STSC and STS Training Requirements
All candidates for the STS/STSC exams must have completed 30 hours of formal safety and health training through either a single course or multiple training courses. Above, you can find specific STS training courses, however you will find even more training options in the general health and safety training category
Professional Experience
All candidates for the STS/STSC exams must have 2 years of experience as a supervisor or in a supervisory role and 4 years of work experience in any field to sit for the exam(s).
What are the next steps?
Review the areas of eligibility above and ensure that you have met all prerequisites for either the STS or STSC exam. If you do not meet all of these requirements you can either continue your studies through Safety Trained Supervisor training courses to gain more experience to meet the STS/STSC requirements, or you could take a look at one of the other health and safety certifications that the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) has to offer.
