Certified Environmental, Safety & Health Trainer (CET)

The Certified Environmental, Safety & Health Trainer (CET) credential is a professional designation accredited by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP). By achieving the CET credential, professionals prove their expertise in developing, designing, and delivering health, safety, and environmental (HSE) training. The CET certification exam will measure the knowledge an individual has regarding the theories and practices of basic adult education. Further, the CET certification exam will confirm the knowledge and experience in any health, safety, and environmental (HSE) field the individual teaches.

Am I Eligible to Become a CET?

All CET candidates must meet certain educational and experiential requirements before sitting for the CET exam. Browse the following requirements to ensure your eligibility for this BCSP-approved credential.

Education Background

Applicants must meet one of the following educational requirements to sit for the CET exam:

  • High school diploma
  • GED

Experience Requirements

All candidates for the CET certification must possess one of the following designations:

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • Certified Dangerous Goods Professional (CDGP)
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)
  • Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS)
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Chartered Member of Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH)
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)

Training Requirements

In order to sit for the CET exam, all candidates must have 270 hours of training or teaching in health, safety, and environmental (HSE) areas.

Review the areas of eligibility above and ensure that you have met all prerequisites for the CET exam. If you do not meet all of these requirements you can either continue your studies and experience to work up to the CET requirements or you can look at one of the other health and safety certifications that the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) has to offer.

If you meet the requirements, you are eligible to apply and sit for the CET certification exam. Many potential CETs enroll in training courses to better prepare them for their upcoming CET exam. Retaining the CET Certification

Upon successful completion and passing of the CET exam, all professionals must remain active to keep their designation. In order to remain eligible and up to date in their certification, CET professionals must pay an annual renewal fee and earn 20 recertification points every 5 years. These points can be earned by fulfilling activities outlined by BCSP's recertification guide.
