Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP)

Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP)

The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) is recognized as one of the leaders of high-quality credentials for health, safety, and environmental (HSE) professionals. Safety professionals are responsible for identifying hazards in the workplace and on job sites and evaluating these hazards for their potential to harm or cause injury to people, property, or the environment. Safety professionals can work in several disciplines and industries, and the BCSP offers credentials for various safety positions. Since it's inception in 1969, the BCSP has issued their health and safety credentials (CSP, ASP, OHST, CHST, STS/STSC, or CET) to over 40,000 individuals.

The primary purpose of the BCSP is to certify safety professionals, and as the value of the safety certification continues to grow, so does the value of the BCSP. In fact, throughout the United States, many laws, regulations, and standards have cited safety certifications as a job requirement. Further, many companies and government agencies have taken it upon themselves to include safety certifications in their standards, and many contracts for safety services require it.

Setting the Standard

BCSP aims to set the standard for professional, technician, technologist, and supervisory level safety practices. In addition to administering certification exams to health and safety professionals, BCSP issues certifications to the professionals who have met their certification qualifications and successfully pass their examination(s). Further, BCSP monitors the continued professional development of their certified professionals through mandatory re-certification requirements.
