Advanced Supervisory Skills course content
Creative problem solving and decision making
Critical to the role of a supervisor is the ability to make clear decisions with authority and confidence. This section guides delegates through the decision making process beginning with the problem - analysis of causes, symptoms and implications. Course content will focus on generating a range of creative solutions, chosing options in accordance with objective criteria, and finally implementing decisions in a manner that leaves room for evaluating result and feedback.
Time management and controlling stress in the workplace
In these time management and stress management sections delegates will be exposed to methods for prioritizing and organizing their workload in a manner that is aligned with their goals. Material will cover the causes and symptoms of stress and make delegates aware of stress warning signs. Potential for burn-out and methods for constructing strategies to control it will also be covered here.
Develop influence and communication skills geared towards constructive outcomes.
These sections address verbal communication and influence development skills. By preparing delegates in factors determining influence, delegates will gain techniques and approaches to influence that don't require an excessive display of power or authority. Utilizing verbal communications skills - actively listenting, constructing simple messages - participants will be prepared to approach interactions in a manner that is focused on coming to a mutually beneficial agreement.
The characteristics and skills of assertiveness
Being assertive is an important yet delicate skill for any supervisor. Here delegates will learn techniques for handling tasks and interactions assertively, managing difficult people and situations with clarity and confidence. This section conveys valuable tools for responding appropriately to both aggressive and passive people, as well as guidance in both giving and receiving feedback.
